The Conscious Consultant: Women@IBM
If you are reading this article, you probably have a passion for CSR, or maybe you just stumbled across the link and are curious what a blog titled the “Conscious Consultant” could be about. I’d like to launch this blog with something that is important to me — women in business.
Since we celebrated International Women’s Day last week, I’ve been thinking a lot about female involvement in the workplace. International Women’s Day occurs across the globe to celebrate social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. From a post on Instagram, attending panels, or creating your own event, there are endless opportunities to applaud the female professionals.
For a notable day that has been occurring for over 100 years, I have yet to truly appreciate International Women’s Day until joining IBM. This organization was particularly intriguing to me as our very own CEO is female. I was immediately inspired and motivated to succeed, realizing that becoming the next IBM CEO could actually be in my future!
Upon joining my first project at an Energy & Utilities company, I noticed most people on the client side were male. I wondered if this was the norm due to the industry or if this was an issue across all types of organizations. I knew I needed to prove myself to both my colleagues and the client, so that I was not seen by my gender, rather, I was seen as a successful consultant.
After a lot of hard work and perseverance, I believe I have proven to myself and those around me that I am a successful consultant. But I could not have done this alone. I am surrounded by so many female rock stars, who encourage me to follow my passions and flourish each and every day. So, this first post goes out to all of the inspirational women at IBM — you are all role models to me and so many others. Thank you for leading the way for female success in the workplace.
