It is difficult to find a job in today’s world. Not only are people worried about making a good first impression in an interview, but they hope to get a first interview as they compete against the other thousands of applicants wanting to be hired to the same position. Let’s use Tom for example. Tom has been searching the job market for six months hoping to get a position as a computer salesman. He has been taking several online computer classes over the course of 3 years but cannot seem to get a second interview. As Tom…

I know it’s been a year since we started this COVID, work from home black hole, and many of you have established proven systems to help you navigate this uncertain time.
You may have found the line between work personal life blurring or almost fading away completely. Managers or clients expect you to be available at all times, every minute of your day is scheduled, now you live with your mom and dad, you can’t see your friends, I think we can all relate to at least one aspect mentioned here. …
Giving Back in a Virtual World
by Rachael Grossman
While the path to returning to “normal” ways of working might remain on pause for some time, that does not mean we can’t resume giving back to our communities. The pandemic has taught us that there is always a way to get things done, we just need to be creative. As a result, our CSR Squad has compiled several ways that you can give back — without leaving your home!

To my fellow self-improvement enthusiasts — do you know IBM offers professional coaching services? I was first introduced to IBM Blue Core Coaching (BCC) as a new hire looking to navigate a few career decisions. I was so inspired by my own coach’s guidance that I went through the training to become a certified Blue Core Coach myself. Since then, I have tried to emulate the BCC mission of “touching lives” by establishing my own coaching relationships and bringing visibility to BCC as a resource among my peers.
While BCC services are invaluable, they aren’t universally known…

This year has been nothing near normal — I’m sure you’ve heard that to the point of adage by now. For me, I finished my last semester of college virtually in my childhood bedroom, and started my career at IBM without having ever set foot in the office. But this isn’t about just me — this is about how far we’ve all come this year and our continual dedication to care for others.
I’ve been thinking, what if this year was not the worst year in the books, but the most important year? A year so raw…

Many Ways to Giveback
When I was 17 years old, I was faced with a decision that I was probably too young to make. I did not realize it at the time, and I certainly never would have admitted it, but I did not truly understand the impact of my decisions about how and where and when to gain a college education. …

The social unrest of 2020 has undoubtedly revived a movement that champions Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Companies are now prioritizing DE&I as a core part of their strategy, and leaders are seizing every opportunity to create spaces for difficult conversations and advance opportunities to promote these values. Many of us conscious consultants feel a sense of responsibility to ensure that this movement is not just a fleeting moment in time, but results in enduring cultural change, which is why IBMers have come together to form a multitude of DE&I task forces, councils, and resource groups with a…

IBM’s commitment to CSR played an influential role in my decision to join this company. As an intern within GBS one year ago, I was impressed with how well CSR is built into the internship experience. Every other Friday, our entire class would come together to attend different events run by Be Epic and other CSR programs.
As I had interviewed with different companies, I think a lot of them loved to sell their extra-curricular related activities by talking about them, but I loved the way IBM involved us in them right away. These events were ingrained…

The challenges of 2020 have led to greater intersection of everyone’s personal & professional lives. It has been the year of outcry, as many have faced limited in person social interaction, changes to ways of working and a social justice uprising.
As part of this uprising, diversity, equity & inclusion was brought to the forefront of conversations across corporations. This was not something new to me, as I had been working to lead IBM’s Communications Market D&I Team. However, the first action I took this summer was listening. …

This year’s Week of Impact touched the lives of many. We had participation from every sector and growth platform across North America. With over 55 teams involved, events benefitted organizations from Charity Miles, Salvation Army, City Harvest and many more. While the current global pandemic meant that we had to host most events virtually or remotely, that did not stop us from helping those in need! We are so proud to see GBS Americas come together to give back to the communities where we live and work.
A huge thank you to our GBS…
